Taxi licensing (inspections)
The second extension for taxi licences expired on 23 September 2020.
Testing services have now begun at our depot and the following will apply to vehicles where the last inspection carried out was issued with an expiry date between 24 March 2020 and 23 September 2020.
1. For vehicles less than 7 years old from date of first registration the expiry date of last vehicle inspection will be extended to the same date next year. For example, an original expiry date of 25 May 2020 will be extended to 25 May 2021.
2. For vehicles now more than 7 years old from date of first registration the expiry date of last inspection will be extended by 6 months. For example, an original expiry date of 25 May 2020 will now be extended to 25 November 2020.
3. For vehicles where the expiry date is after 23 September 2020, the original expiry date shown on the pass certificate will remain valid, and taxi drivers should arrange to submit their vehicle for inspection before the expiry of the current certificate.
All requests to book a vehicle inspection should be made with Customer Services on 0141 577 3001.
Please note, regardless of the extension of the expiry date to vehicle inspection certificates, taxi drivers are still required to ensure that a valid MOT is in force in relation to their vehicles at all times.
Taxis will need an MOT each year once your vehicle is 1 year old. In addition, your vehicle may be checked for roadworthiness at any time by a council enforcement officer.
